still looking very light. it's 4:30 let's go back to the desk. thank you, sal. topping our news this morning family and friends are holding out hope that seven fishermen will be found alive. most of the missing are from the bay area. today the mexican navy and u.s. coast guard will continue to search. tara moriarty joins us from the newsroom to talk about what investigators are cig this morning. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning, pam. we are learning more about the man confirmed dead in this boating tragedy. the coast guard says the fisherman's chances of survival are good given that the water temperature is warm but hope is fading. passengers that made it out tonight are not sure if people from the upper decks were able to grab life jackets. 35 crew members and passengers

survived by swimming 16 hours to shore or being rescued by mexican fishermen or navy boats. u.s. coast guard left yesterday searching for the tourists. the boat capsized before dawn on sunday when it was hit by a sudden storm. one man as we mentioned has been found dead. we recently spoke to may lee the missing fisherman donald lee is clinging to hope that her husband will be found alive. >> just thinking about not being with him it's horrible. i have to hold on to that. i have to hold on that there is hope. >> reporter: lee shared with us this video a similar fishing trip that her husband organized last year. this is the third time he took the trip. lee is on the far right hand side of a group photo that we are just about to show you right now.

it was taken shortly before the group on board saturday. there he is right there. we will tell you what some people were able to eat that helped them stay alive and have the strength to swim to shore to be rescued. live in the newsroom i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. we are learning more about the man confirmed dead in this boating tragedy. he's identified as leslie yee of series. he worked at the chronicle for 37 years before retiring in 2009. his family says fishing was his passion. they say friends tried to convince to go on this trip for years but he was always too busy with work and family before now. leslie yee was 65 years old. san francisco police are searching for a woman who threw bleach into another woman's face and hit her with a glass bottle. that happened at about 10:00

monday night. now police say the suspect is a woman in her 40s who was driving a white four-door accra. the motive for the attack is not known. the victim is expected to survive. the search is on for a thief that walked right out of a san francisco art gallery with a picasso. it happened just about 11:40 yesterday morning. right before noon. the man took an original picasso drawing off the wall and left in attacks see cab. the 1965 art work is only about the size of a piece of paper but valued at $200,000. >> we as a gallery will take a look at our security levels. >> now police are looking at surveillance video to see if the incident was captured on camera. the suspect is describabled as

a well-dressed white man believed to be in his 30nd. they have impounded the taxi cab that he used to get away. the city of richmond will issue id cards to all residence. the city council unanimously approved the plan. now anyone who has lived in the city for 15 of the past 30 days will receive a card. regardless of immigration status. it will give people access to libraries, pools, and other city services. at 11:00 this morning president obama will host a twitter town hall at the white house. anyone can tweet questions about jobs in the economy. the president will not type his answers with twitters 140 character limit. instead he will answer the questions verbally in front of a live audience. twitter cofounder will moderate the event. president obama has invited congressional leaders of both

parties to the white house tomorrow to continue negotiations of raising the debt limit. the president says he wants a long-term deal instead of a short-term solution. this morning facebook will announce what the company founder calls an awesome new feature. there have been several reports on what it might be including a tablet app, a video chat service powered by skype, or some kind of music service. the announcement will come from facebook's headquarters at 10:00 this morning. the 49ers move to santa clara is getting closer to becoming is reality. one of the decisions allows the hiring of sub contractors to perform work on the stadium starting this fall. another gives approval for a contract with a food and hospitality provider. the stadium also got a green light to move ahead with the next stage of development.

power is still out for customers in morgan hill. about 2900 homes and businesses are still without electricity. the problem is expected to be fixed though in just about 30 minutes. it started yesterday afternoon though at about 4:30 when an under ground cable failed. that knocked out power to 7,000 customers. by 7:00 last night that number was down to 4700. it's 4:36. we want to check in with sal for traffic this morning. hi sal. >> good morning, to you. traffic is doing well around the bay area. so far. it's nice and early. let's go out and take a look at 80 westbound. it's coming in and out of the fog but you can see traffic is moving along pretty well here in berkeley and emery vail. also this morning at the toll plaza there is nothing going on right now. the bridge traffic is clear coming into san francisco.

there are no major issues reported by chp. really in the nine-county bay area region as we look at the list. they give us a pretty good list of what is going on. right now it's pretty uneventful which is good. this is highway 270. there goes cal train. we did that just for steve. it looks like a model railroad set there. 4:37 let's go to steve. it is sal. that is from our studio. good morning. yesterday for some it was a nice day for others it was too darn hot or you might like that. the cooling begins today. the fog is ramped up and it's higher today than yesterday. there is no doubt about that. yesterday it struggled to get up above 500 feet for some. if you're up in lake county or areas to the north it will take another day. it's on its way it being the cooler trend. also thunderstorm activity

popping up over the sierra. a few of the clouds are drifting up. i saw a few of them coming in. if you wonder where the clouds came from, that is where they came from. 58 in napa. 65 fairfield. they had a southwest wind at 20. that is a key signature if you are looking for inland cooling. so the only problem is that i put my own forecast temperatures together. there is a 10-degree spread on the two of them today. you don't normally see that. it's a tough call today. clouds coming around the high will start to stay more toward the east and south. some coming up toward the western edge is filtering in. that will give us a pronounced cooling trend. once a high pressure is firmly entrenched it takes a lot of budget. warm clouds. cool to warm. on shore breeze cooler for many. i say that because there are

many locations that won't cool off until tomorrow. temperatures are coming down. 60s, 70s en80s for some. with that west wind it looks like temperatures will come down even inland. we will see more fog and cooler temperatures and temperatures will settle in for awhile. >> thank you, steve. the massive dust storm in arizona is still causing problems this morning. we want to show you video of the storm. look at that. sweeping into the phoenix area yesterday. this is called a haboob. it's caused when air is forced downward by a thunderstorm. several communities were under a severe thunderstorm watch until late last night. this morning the faa is warping of flight delays because of low visibility in that area. now that is a large grass fire is out, firefighters are trying to figure out what caused it. the fire burned about 400 acres alongside interstate 580.

caylee's remains were found. family members are expressing shock at the jury's decision. >> i'm appalled and now i'm angry and i say shame on this jury. they are either not too bright or just plain lazy. >> casey's parents quickly left the courtroom when the verdict was read. they have released the statement calling the defense baseless saying they just want to move on with their lives. the 12 jurors have not yet commented but one of the alternates says he supports the decision they have made. >> i agree with it wholeheartedly. it's the right decision that was made. the prosecution didn't meet their burden of proof. we had a lot of reasonable doubt there. >> casey anthony was found guilty of four counts of providing false information to police. the alleged victim in the dominic strauss kahn case is

suing the new york post. the woman's lawyer filed the claim yesterday. she claims the public -- earlier this month the paper reported the hotel maid also worked as a prostitute collecting cash on the side from male guests. the post says it stands by its reporting. the bay area radio preacher who falsely predicted the apocalypse in may is now in a nursing home. his recovering from a stroke he suffered last month. his daughter said he was moved from a hospital to a nursing home. camping station has been playing repeats of his open forrum program since his stroke. it's unclear if that show will ever return. we now have audio recording. the detail that lead up to a fatal police shooting inside of a san francisco bart station. >> guy with the tie die and

open bottle of alcohol. he's still there. >> those calls came in about 9:30 sunday night. two identified bart officers responded. about a minute later the man had been shot and the station shut down. >> shots fired. officer involved shooting. do not stop at civic center. >> san francisco police quickly responded to interview both bart officers involved and witnesses. yesterday the coroner said they have identified the man killed as white man between 30-50 years old. they are not releasing his name until the family has been notified. more than 1400 state workers in california were paid more than $200,000 last year. that is according to a new report released by the state controllers office. 790 of those were prison

doctors, dentists, or nurses. total compensation can be pushed higher by payouts by unused vacation and sick time. for example a prison doctor was paid $770,000. a den taste got $599,000. in contrast governor jerry brown is paid $175,000 a year. and governor jerry brown must decide if he will sign a law that is changed in california textbooks. will that will require the inclusion of lesbians and gays used in california books. no state bans teaching on that topic. it's not clear exactly how the material would be included in the textbooks. the family of the man who's body was found burned # in san francisco was wondering if the

victims sexuality could have been a motive in the killing. 23-year-old freddy went to a gay bar in the castro on june 9th. they found his body the next morning while responding to a brush fire. the body was burned beyond recognition but he was likely killed before. police are still searching for the suspects. there is a renewed search for clues to find the killer of a night manager of a tgi fridays in san mateo. they hosted a fundraiser on what would have been his 40th birthday. he was killed in 2008. he died from a blow to his head with a blunt object. >> it's been torture for me for the last 3.5 years. it's time for someone to come forward. >> tgif is donating 25% of all proceeds from yesterday's event to a reward fund that currently

stands at $40,000. police say anyone with any tips can call or text them anonymously. the oakland zoo's plan to expand could pump millions of dollars into the local economy. a new impact report says the project could generate more than $100 million for the city and county over the next few years. the zoo got final approval to move ahead with upgrades last month. plans include a new veterinarian hospital. an overnight camping area and 20 acres of new exhibits featuring extinct animals. one of the bisons living in the park died. she and four other bison are descendents of a gift given by dianne feinstein by her husband. golden gate park is one of several protected habitats for

welcome back to the morning news. it's 4:53. and three vineyard workers have been released from the hospital after being treated for respiratory problems. the women were pruning a vineyard on big ranch road when they started feeling sick. they brought the labels from chemicals used on neighboring vineyards the night before. other grape growers say the pesticides are commonly used in that area. >> we are in a quarantine area. we are trying to eradicate

european grapevine moth. >> the agricultural commission says vineyards are supposed to report over pesticide used. japan's power plants are set to under go stress test. it's in response to the march earthquake and tsunami. it has come under heavy criticism for its poor -- we should find out where the 2018 winter olympic games will be held. the three cities bidding hewn i germany, and south korea. 'young change is considered the front runner. hewnic is trying to become the first city to host a winter and summer olympics and considered a long shot.
